Club Championship and Rabbit Trophy

Last week saw our Juniors playing for their own annual premier events. The
Junior Club Championship, played over 2 days, was fiercely competed for
and with their current form, several of the lads that had a realistic chance
of winning. However it was not surprising after coming second in the men's
"Club Championship" that Callum Morrow continued his good form and
retained his title from the previous year. Callum posted a 2 day total of 158
gross, beating the much improved Alex Maskell by nine shots.
The Rabbits Trophy was a straight "face to face" match between Jake
Lovric and the less experienced Liam Starkey. Played over one round as a
"nett" event, Jake won through to take the title with a commendable nett
74 score.

The presentation of trophies and prizes was made by Club Captain, John
McAlpin and Ladies Captain, Pat Holt. Junior Captain, Callum Morrow
recorded the thanks of all the Juniors for John and Pat giving up their time
and also to Joe Moore and John Wilkins for their continued efforts in
support of the Juniors.

Children's Panto Charity Competition

This annual event, played in support of Bar Manager's, Neil Reynolds
Children's Panto Charity was played in great weather and with the course
presented to the highest standard by Gary Jukes and his greenstaff team.
The winner of the men's event was Tony White, above (42pts) followed
closely by Andre Kulp (41pts) whose recent holiday obviously agreed with
him.

The ladies event was won by Andrea Mace, above (36pts) with Jayne Ward
(33pts) a close second.

A good number stayed behind for the "après golf" fund raising and
"entertainment". The days activities raised in excess of £500 with Neil
stating his sincere thanks to the members for their support and adding that
he intended to donate some of the proceeds to the Captains charity and
also the Junior Section.
Well done Neil your efforts and generosity are much appreciated also! .

"Members Invitation - Sunday 15 Aug"
This years event attracted 42 pairs with members representing 15 different
clubs taking part. Entries were up on last year but still a little disappointing
considering the fantastic value and wonderful condition of the course. Our
thanks go to Gary Jukes and his groundstaff team for his efforts in setting
up the course to such excellent standard. It was particularly good to see so
many "old friends" returning to take part and especially good to hear their
positive comments on the course, catering and organisation of the event.
With so many low handicappers taking part it was not surprising that in
such benign conditions the scoring was good. Winning the event with an
excellent betterball score of 45 stableford points, was club treasurer, Colin
Kitching and his partner, Ian Tarver (Drayton Park GC). Ian's kind words in
his acceptance speech were much appreciated and well received.
Runners up were John Ritchie and Mark Pearson (Maxstoke GC), followed
by Steve Cooling and Paul Crimes (Ullesthorpe GC).
Thanks go to the Ladies that gave their time to act as starters and spotters
so that the day past by smoothly but very special thanks to all those that
took part.
(Full results are available on the results page)

"Senior Ladies Open - Thursday 17 Aug."
Our Senior Ladies Open attracted 20 teams, playing the event as a 3 ball
Alliance. The course was again set up in excellent condition and received
extensive praise from those that participated. Early starters avoided a
torrential downpour that might have threatened to suspend play if the
course had not been able to absorb the deluge. Later starters battled
through and it was surprising that the all the placings came from those
worst affected.
Winners were an Oakridge team of Linda Iles, Linda Day and Lyn Seward
(78 pts), followed by a team headed by Joan Allen (74pts) and then by
another Oakridge team of Margaret Bell, Andrea Mace and Sylvia Hamilton
(71pts).
Well done ladies on another great Oakridge day!

"Mason & Karen top the pile"
Rapidly improving and highly thought of junior member, Mason West took
advantage of the excellent playing conditions and recorded a fabulous 47
stableford points to win the "Reginald Stanley Trophy" (sponsored by Paul
Hambidge's, Carpet World). Mason is having an excellent season and has
now seen his handicap fall by 8 shots since the end of last season. The rest
of the field lead by Martin McFadden (41pts), Richard Chapman, Hughie
Steele and Ian Bateman (all 40 pts) all trailed in the wake of Mason's
fantastic performance.
The Ladies prize went to the very popular, Karen Walsh (38 pts) who
narrowly beat runner up, Linda Iles on count back. Karen attributes much of
her success to her coach and mentor, Joe Lovric (or at least that is what
Joe says!!!).
Congratulations to the winners, a big thank you to all those who took part
and a very special thanks to Paul Hambidge and his "Carpet World" for yet
again sponsoring the competition this year.

Ace
Congratulations to Sumo errrr sorry Andy Pinfold on his fabulous Ace on the
14th while playing with the High Nooners on Saturday.

A "Grand" Result.
With the Union Flag flying,Oakridge members turned out in force last
Saturday, to support the National Golf Challenge Competition in support
of "Help for Heroes". A total of 124 members played in the event and,
just like Oakridge members do, showed their overwhelming generosity
for this cause.
A lot of people contributed to the success of the day and sincere thanks
go to them for all their efforts. A special mention of Pat and Ken Holt with
Jayne Ward for organising and running the raffle, Sylvia Hamilton for
doing the posters, Joe Moore and his Junior helpers for running the
Putting Competition, John McAlpin for his overall support and Ken Clegg
for doing all sorts of things that made the event run smoothly.
Most importantly thanks go to everyone who showed their fantastic
generosity by donating a raffle prize or buying a raffle ticket and of
course playing in the event. Also the Seniors who donated their "Away
Day" fines, courtesy of Syd, to the total.
It was hoped that Golf Clubs throughout the UK would raise £1 million
over the weekend and we set an Oakridge target of one thousand pounds
as our contribution. Delighted to say that we "smashed" our target and a
cheque for £1,315 will shortly be on the way to the organisers. For those
interested, the breakdown of the total sum was as follows: Entry Fees
£744, Putting Competition £87, Seniors Away Day Fines £27 and Raffle
proceeds £457 altogether an absolutely wonderful effort.
Secondary to the main purpose of the day the separate results of the top
ten in the Men's and Ladies Competitions will be submitted this week and
we will await to hear how we have performed against other clubs who
have participated. The full results are posted on the web page and
"howdidido" but special congratulations go to Martin McFadden and Sue
Orchard who both returned fantastic individual scores for their rounds.
